Centre Overview
The National Centre for Population Health & Wellbeing Research (NCPHWR) carries out research to improve the health and well-being of people in Wales.
We have two main research areas:
-
- Healthy development – understanding the causes and consequences of ill-health, disease, injury and well-being with a focus on giving children and young people a healthy start in life and reducing inequalities.
- Healthy ageing – improving physical activity and well-being in the general population, key areas of work include arthritis, asthma, cardiovascular disorders, infection and injuries.
We bring together academia, the NHS, third sector, policymakers, practitioners and the public to:
-
- develop research capacity,
- co-produce research studies,
- increase research income into Wales,
- generate evidence for population health policy and practice in Wales and beyond.
Funded by Health and Care Research Wales, our mission is aligned to the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and key Welsh Government priorities around Prudent Healthcare, public health, early years and social care strategies.
NCPHWR has been awarded a total of £1.5 million by the Health and Care Research Wales.
