The Population Data Science Internship Programme at Swansea University celebrates its continued success with an increase in the number of applications, impactful projects, and its largest cohort to date.
This year, the programme is thrilled to welcome 16 interns who will be joining our team for the summer, providing them with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the advancement of ground-breaking research and development projects.
Professor Ashley Akbari, who leads the programme, commented on the outstanding quality of the applicants.
“Since its inception, the programme has grown from strength to strength. This year, we have witnessed a significant increase in applications. Feedback from several of our interview panels highlighted the remarkable quality of this year’s applicants. One consistent message was, ‘We would have really liked to appoint more interns if further funding and projects were available, given the exceptional quality of the applications, interviews and applicants this year.’ This speaks to the talent and potential of our candidates, and highlights the growing impact and success of our programme.”
Supported by ADR Wales (Administrative Data Research Wales), Secure Anonymised Information Linkage Databank (SAIL Databank), Secure eResearch Platform (SeRP), and Dementias Platform UK Data Portal (DPUK Data Portal), the interns work as part of our award winning team at Population Data Science, acquiring real-world experience, gaining access to anonymised data, and utilising technical systems and platforms.
As the programme continues to expand, it remains committed to advancing population data science and nurturing the next generation of data-driven innovators.
