‘Fifteen years is a long time in the world of data’
Our 15 Year Anniversary Review maps the journey of Population Data Science since 2006 to the present day at the forefront of the increasingly important field of Population Data Science – the science of data about people.
The review charts our evolution and showcases our many achievements which include the establishment of 11 research Centres of Excellence and how they come together to answer important questions about society, public policy and citizen services.
The public health challenges of COVID-19, of course, feature prominently. Our review details how we’ve supported the One Wales multi-agency approach to provide intelligence to Welsh Government and on to the UK’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).
The review also details a broad range of research and projects that cover themes from across the entire human lifecycle. Readers can also learn more about the advanced technology, strong governance and public involvement activities that help steer our research collaborations to ensure maximum public benefit.
We outline the growing importance and influence of our Open Access, international peer-reviewed scholarly journal specialising in the science pertaining to population data – the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS).
Finally, the review features our commitment to teaching and building capacity towards the next generation of data scientists and health informaticians before outlining our vision for the future.
