SAIL Databank and DATAMIND, based in Population Data Science at Swansea University, are among 19 projects benefiting from a new initiative to improve the transparency of health data access processes for researchers and the public.
This funding initiative, launched by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC), signifies a significant step forward in enhancing transparency around how data is accessed and used to help build and maintain public trust.
The objective of this initiative is to ensure that both researchers and the public have clear and comprehensive information regarding the procedures for accessing health datasets for research purposes. This newly funded project will implement the Alliance Transparency Standards, a framework collaboratively developed by the Pan-UK Data Governance Steering Group and HDR UK’s Public Advisory Board.
SAIL Databank has been awarded funding to develop informative video animations that will educate and inform the public on the process of accessing data, emphasising how SAIL’s robust privacy-by-design measures ensure secure use through the appropriate use of language that will help improve communication on the impact of health data research to improve and save lives.
In partnership with The Catalogue of Mental Health Measures and the DATAMIND PPI Super Research Advisory Group, DATAMIND secured funding to create accessible summaries, infographics, and a glossary, reinforcing commitment to transparency and improved health data access.
This funding initiative represents a collaborative effort to ensure that health data remains a valuable resource for researchers and the public while maintaining trust and accountability.
