From September 15th to 19th, 2024, Chicago hosted the 2024 International Population Data Linkage Network (IPDLN) Conference, themed “Adapting to a Changing World.” As Gold Sponsors, the Population Data Science team at Swansea University was proud to support this prestigious event, which gathered leading researchers, innovators, and practitioners from across the globe to exchange cutting-edge ideas in population data science.
Our team made a significant impact at IPDLN2024, participating in a range of activities that highlighted our expertise and research:
- 3 workshops: “Synthetic Data, Common Data Models and Federation” examined the role and challenges of synthetic data in health research, “Data Visualization: Communicating with Efficacy and Elegance” introduced essential principles for impactful data communication, and “Opportunities for Cross-Country Comparisons of Linked Education and Health Data” explored how international collaborations can be better initiated using linked data from 14 countries.
- 11 Rapid-Fire Presentations: provided rapid insights into ongoing research and methodologies.
- 20 Oral Presentations: highlighted our latest findings and contributions to population data science.
- 13 Poster Sessions: gave visual representations of our diverse research initiatives.
IPDLN2024 also offered the chance for many members of the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS) Editorial Board, made up of representatives from around the world, to meet in person. The journal, which is based in Population Data Science at Swansea University, is an electronic, open‑access, peer-reviewed journal focussing on the science relating to population data.
Professor Ronan Lyons, Co-Director of Population Data Science at Swansea University, said:
“The conference was a tremendous success. IPDLN2024 provided a platform to discuss real-world applications, community engagement, and emerging technologies in data science. Our team was one of the largest present and made major contributions to discussions on data infrastructure, ethical implications, and the societal impacts of population-based research.
We are grateful to the organisers and other participants for advancing the global exchange of ideas around population data linkage. We look forward to contributing at IPDLN 2026 in Rotterdam.”
